On Wednesday (12th June) over 120 children from Tyneside were involved in a high quality football tournament, thanks to JUSTNewcastle, with the help of our partners; Newcastle Community Football and Show Racism the Red Card.
The event at the Westgate Centre For Sport in Newcastle, featured 15 different teams from schools across the north east.
Newcastle Community Football made sure everything ran smoothly on the day and that the matches had the right balance of commitment but also fair play.
The schools involved ranged from those on both sides of the Tyne, right out as far as Consett.
Despite the diverse schools it ended up being an all Gateshead final with South Street finally getting the better of Kells Lane, with the 4-1 scoreline a bit harsh on the runners-up.
The children from years 5 and 6 had more treats in store as they met ex-United legend John Anderson who kindly came along on behalf of Show Racism the Red Card and presented the trophies.
In addition, all children who took part received a JUSTNewcastle junior supporter pack.
The NUST spectacular giant flag also made an appearance, the 15m x 10m shirt having been kindly presented to the Trust by Northern Rock (now Virgin Money), to help with NUST’s work in the community.
JUSTNewcastle intend this week’s tournament to be only the first of many (depending on future funding), helping to connect the children of the north east with our beloved football club.
All donations and offers of help gratefully received by JUSTNewcastle to help with the Junior Trust’s work in the community.
